Non woven bag buying guide

Four decisions decide your bag: the cut, the GSM, the size and the print. Here is how to make each one.

Choose the cut

The cut is the handle style. D cut bags have an oval handle cut into the bag and are the most economical. W cut and U cut bags have wide cut-out handles that are more comfortable with heavier loads. Loop handle bags carry a separate handle and a base that lets the bag stand, for a more premium feel.

Choose the GSM

GSM means grams per square metre. It is the weight of the fabric, and it decides how strong and how thick the bag feels. As a rule of thumb, a lower GSM suits light items and promotions, a medium GSM suits everyday shopping, and a higher GSM suits heavy loads and bags that will be reused for a long time. Tell us what the bag will carry and we will suggest a GSM.

Choose the size

Measure the largest item the bag must hold, then add room for the handles and a little extra width so the bag closes comfortably. Sizes are given as width by height in inches. A loop handle or box bag also has a base depth. If you are unsure, send us a photo of what you want to carry. Our bag calculator on the home page shows how many bags a quantity of fabric makes at each size.

Choose the print

A plain bag is the cheapest. A coloured bag adds brand colour. Screen printing puts your logo and a short message on the bag in one or more colours. A laminated bag has a thin BOPP film that gives a glossy or matt surface and sharper, full-colour artwork. Send your logo as a vector file (PDF, AI or CDR) if you have one, or the best image you have, and we will confirm what is possible.

Why non woven

  • Reusable and durable. Strong enough to be used again and again, which is why it outlasts thin single-use plastic bags.
  • Recyclable. Made from polypropylene fabric, which can be recycled where facilities exist.
  • Water resistant. The fabric repels liquid, so a bag survives a wet market day.
  • Printable. Your name and logo travel with every customer, so each bag works as advertising.
  • Light and easy to carry. Soft handles and a fabric that folds flat.
